作品《狗》交織於一個新聞事件與一件18世紀的藝術作品。新聞內容陳述一位敘利亞難民(小男孩)艾倫.庫爾迪的死亡事件,而藝術作品則是哥雅黑暗時期的作品《狗》的影像。藝術家藉由個人的創作研究於網路上進行搜尋瀏覽,串聯起一些平行的想像。
在此件作品中,一方面揭露了國際難民的處境,在邊境間跨越,生命在金錢、暴力和種種檯面下的交易中失去了聚光燈,而他人平行且冷靜的注視無異這一些是隔離的、無關的。另一方面,這種冷漠也演示了社群媒體及網路所帶來的瞬時的巨量資料、高強度刺激與隨之而生的無感、距離與遲鈍。此作雖並未直言,不過提供了一個機會事件,讓我們得以在作品中去重覆、反覆地停下看同一個事件,給予時間進行思考並反思。
The artwork Dog is intertwined with a news story and an artwork from the 18th century. The news talks about the death of Alan Kurdi, a Syrian refugee boy. The artwork is the image of Dog, one of Goya’s Black Paintings. The artist conducted searching and browsing online through personal creative research to connect some parallel imaginations.
In this artwork, on one hand, the predicament of international refugees is exposed, crossing borders as their lives losing the attention of spotlight due to money, violence, and all sorts of off-record deals, whereas the parallel and calm gazes of others are no doubt isolated and indifferent. On the other hand, this indifference demonstrates the senselessness, distance, and numbness come with the instant colossal data as well as the stimulus in high intensity brought by the social media and the Internet. Though inexplicitly, the artwork offers us an opportunity to halt and see the same event over and over again, giving it time to contemplate and reflect.
