We love Me is a work about how the Thai artist Naween faces his inner fear and engages the conversation with it. The fear of Naween is rooted in darkness. In his work, the artist utilizes other images to fight against the images happening on his mind: he projects the light to the image to fight off the darkness before and after the screening; he uses other voices to fight against his own voice and shield from the silence before and after the screening. Yet, what remains in the end in the highly compressed space and time of images?
In the artwork, “we” and “I” are used interchangeably here and there. The word “we” in Thai includes the meaning of “I” and “we’. The artist in this work often think about the connotation of the word “we” in application, especially in various events or speeches in Thailand. To Naween, “we” represents a relatively passive “I” dwelling in the cluster of “we”.
